Alpha Buoy is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist hailing from the capital of the South Pacific, Auckland, New Zealand. With roots in his city’s graffiti scene during the mid to late 00’s, the foundation for a creative career was set. With the birth of his first child, he left university and joined the Royal New Zealand Navy, hence the pseudonym - Alpha Buoy.
Alpha Buoy drew on his creative background and mixed it with his new nautical life and opened his first Tattoo Studio, specialising in traditional american tattoo.
Having to give up the studio due to his service commitments, Alpha Buoy spent his down time during a 6 month operational deployment honing his style.
Since 2015 Alpha Buoy has evolved his art practice more into the graphic design realm, focusing on brand identity, signage, apparel and website design. Alpha Buoys’s work has progressed from traditional art styles and methods into what he describes as 'sh*t I think, looks good'.
Although he is now more in tune with Adobe creative suite, he still dabbles in tattooing for family and friends and is known to hold a spray can now and then. When he is not away with the Navy, Alpha Buoy often utilises his spare time working on design projects for private clients.
